Some of my oil paintings are initially begun with an Encaustic base. It is a wax based (composed of beeswax, resin and pigment), which is kept molten on a heated palette. I then carefully fuse it with a hot blow gun. I layer the colored wax and resin over and over with a special brush. I then incorporate the background of the molten colors into an oil painting.
